Madoc Parnell, boisterous and ever-smirking, loves a good fight, a good drink, and a good time. Being raised by Eorzean mercenaries means he’s an outlander when it comes to Steppes culture, though he is learning more as time passes.

He’s currently living the domestic life and running a hunting lodge in the Mists called the Broken Horn. While content with the way things are, he can’t help but feel a little restless lately…

BASIC INFORMATION

Name : Madoc Parnell. His last name was given to him after he arrived on Eorzean shores.

Xaela Tribe : Madoc is unaware of his original tribe's name. After some recent investigation in the Steppes, he believes his origins may have roots in the Qerel tribe.

Age : Mid thirties.

Personality : Typically found in taverns or lazying about, it's easy to see Madoc as an easy-going, laid back guy at first. And he is. He loves interesting stories and has no trouble walking in and striking up a conversation. There's a smug aura about him, with his dark, wandering eyes and playful little smirk.

On the battlefield, Madoc loves the adrenaline of a good fight, often taunting enemies or boosting the morale of others. Even if wounded, he'll seem to be enjoying himself. There's a light-heartedness to him, almost as if he was playing a sport and not murdering people legitimate monsters.

OCCUPATION / SKILLS

'The Hundred Blades' : An epithet granted to Madoc by his ability to be comfortable with whatever blade he holds. He owns multiple axes and greatswords, each with a name and personality (or so he'd say). His competence with the large weapons cannot be denied, and his skill in all manner of blades makes him a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

Brewmaster : Madoc's always had a fascination with alcohol, and what the type of drink says about a person. With the opening of his bar, he's been working to perfect the craft, and it isn't uncommon for him to get others to test his latest brew or cocktail.

Veteran Mercenary : Madoc's entire life has revolved around the mercenary world. He's no stranger to how things work, and he would have the good sense and leadership to organize his own group one day, if he wanted. For now, he's content to take freelance work.


HOOKS

Tavern Owner : Madoc is the proprietor for the Broken Horn, a tavern & hunting lodge located in the Mists. One of the easiest ways to meet him is to stop by the bar, as he's often found either serving drinks or sitting back and enjoying the atmosphere, shrouded in the smoke from his cigar.

Mercenary for Hire : Despite having settled into some form of domestic life, Madoc can sometimes grow restless and desire to see some action. He still picks up some jobs, like bounty hunting or bodyguarding, to keep his abilities sharp and feel a thrill.

Inner Beast : Madoc has struggled with an inner beast since adolescence. The powerful force rages within him, though he rarely allows himself to show it, and he has managed some control over the beast with the help of a soulstone heirloom–the ruby-red ring on his right hand. When he loosens his grip on the beast's reins, his abilities increase tenfold, but the cost is his composure and the potential to go berserk.

The Rothlyt Fangs : Madoc was raised on the isles of Mazlaya, trained into the mercenary life at a young age after having survived a shipwreck from the Steppes. The Rothlyt Fangs were an upstanding mercenary group led by a Hellsguard named Rising Wolf. If someone needed mercenary assistance fifteen to twenty years ago, they may have met the younger (but just as cocky) Madoc, rather out of place in Eorzea.

The Demon of Rothlyt : Madoc went through a darker phase in his past where he did whatever would make him feel alive, and he let his inner beast run wild. He joined a ruthless merc clan called the Rujaz'an, and through them, he slaughtered villages, enabled slavers, and other unforgiveable acts. This past is behind him now, roughly a decade ago, but a victim to his crimes might not easily forget his face.

RELATIONSHIPS

Arshtat Ejinn ('Luv') : Madoc has known Arsh for quite some time, and she has become someone who he proudly proclaims is his lover. The two have fought side-by-side, suffered, and rejoiced together, and there is none that he trusts more. Her good nature has pierced his heart, and he tries to be a better person because of her.

Khuu ('Son') [NPC] : Madoc and Arshtat's tiger, who they found in the Steppes after hunters had claimed the cub's parents. They are raising him with care (and spoiling him a bit), and the curious tiger grows larger with every passing moon.

Vienne Livaudais ('Red') : A woman sometimes heard on Madoc's linkpearl and seen around the Broken Horn, referred to only as "Red". Her relationship with the xaela is unknown, yet judging on how often he can be overheard seeking her advice, she seems to be someone on whom Madoc greatly confides.

Istellia Montagne ('Boss') : One of Madoc's confidants, a shrewd and no-nonsense elezen whose love for paperwork never fails to make the xaela's eyes glaze over. They've gone through many successes and failures, and Istellia is one of the few people that Madoc would go to if he was in real trouble.

Ruran Vas ('Alabaster') : A meek knight who once hired Madoc, also assisted when Madoc was going through a tough time with a cursed greatsword. Since then, the masked man is a frequent visitor of the Broken Horn, and even keeps an eye on Khuu while Madoc and Arshtat are away.

Temame Kajiya ('Bean') : Having known him for almost as long as Istellia, Madoc thinks highly of this raen and enjoys playfully teasing him. A long time ago, Temame handcrafted Madoc a mechanical greatsword named 'Noboru', which remains one of his prized possessions.

? Xev'tan Tatsae ('Shades') : Madoc and the sky captain got off to good start, but it soon turned rocky after an unfortunate incident concerning Xev's rage. Their current status remains uncertain, though with Arshtat's encouragement, Madoc has said he'd make an effort to patch it up.

Rising Wolf ('Wolf') [NPC, Deceased] : A Hellsguard Roegadyn who plucked Madoc out of the gutter as a boy and nurtured him into the man he is now. Wolf is the closest thing he has to a father-figure. In honor of him, Madoc wields his axe ('Vadriak') and his Warrior soulstone in the form of a ring.

The Broken Horn : Madoc and Arshtat's tavern & hunting lodge, located in the Mists. The notice board provides work for adventurers and monster hunters, and it's a place where the drinks keep flowing, with warm food and rooms to rest.

The Thorns of Iniquity : ???

The Rothlyt Fangs : The mercenary group who raised Madoc, on the eastern isles of Mazlaya. They have since disbanded and scattered across Eorzea, following their own paths.

Solaris Mercenary Corps. : Once co-led with Istellia, a ragtag group of mercs based in Revenant's Toll, now relocated to the Mists, just down the road from the Broken Horn.

The Rujaz'an : A ruthless group of sellswords from a later (and lower) point in Madoc's life. He believes most, if not all, of them to have perished...or tempered by Ifrit.

Disclaimer : I'm not looking to attach myself to one particular person; I want a wide spectrum of players and personalities! While I consider myself a heavy RPer, work and personal projects (as well as doing PvE) keep me busy sometimes, so if you're looking for an RP partner with whom you can spend most of your time, I'm afraid I'm not for you. I'd still love to meet your character and develop a story, but possessiveness and jealousy are huge aversions for me.

Communication & Respect : Want to RP? All you have to do is ask, and I will try my best to make plans. Simple as that!

If you're uncomfortable, please tell me; I will do the same for you. There is little that can happen in an RP that will make me squeamish, so long as it is OOCly consensual among all parties involved. I prefer my RP to be a little gritty, and I ask that at least attempt is made to be lore-consistent, but otherwise I am open for almost all kinds of RP. (I am not open for ERP. Fading to black when applicable is fine.)

Accessibility : Madoc is located on Balmung, but I'm more than willing to World-Visit. My timezone is US Eastern/GMT-5, and I'm often online after 8pm Monday-Friday, and weekends I'm available all day. I prefer ingame RP over Discord, since I am notorious for becoming distracted and letting scenes slip away from me.

Scheduling : Please don't be disheartened if we can't RP right away! I tend to schedule a week ahead just to make sure that I can stay on top of things and not overlook anyone. It's best to set up a day with me in advance instead of sending me a whisper/message and wanting to set up a scene immediately. Walk-ups are always fine if you see me with the RP tag up, but if you find me in the middle of nowhere, just send a quick whisper first. (I might be hosting a plot event!)
